Scenic views are fantastic but I love knowing what I’m looking at — it makes the whole view better. Hopefully, these images will enrich your experience of this amazing scenic view from Indian Head.
Here’s a breakdown of the images I’ve posted in Sunset Hike Indian Head in the Fall.
People sometimes think this view is of Plattekill. But it’s not. The summit of Indian Head’s chin is higher than Plattekill’s summit, and much closer, so it obscures the mountain behind it.
Below you can see the lines of sight from the ledge where the photograph was taken.
This alternate view shows a little more to the left of the knoll/chin. In the distance, you can see the southern Taconics. But right behind the knoll you can also see Plattekill’s northern flank sloping down to Platte Clove.
