Some of the best things you’ll find on a hike aren’t famous summits. Hidden waterfalls, abandoned ruins, strange rock formations, quiet viewpoints and overlooked trails are often far more memorable.
This collection brings together some of my favorite lesser-known hiking spots and trail secrets, especially in the Catskills and surrounding mountains.
Nothing is truly secret. These spots and routes are all on public land, but they are unsung, which is a real shame. They may not be widely known, but they’re wonderful and they’re awesome.
